Whenever someone says that Castiel is he one loves Dean the most/is he only one to save Dean/has the biggest impact on Dean, I have to think about this scene (and this whole episode). I mean, it has always been obvious how much Sam and Dean need each other and how they just can’t live without each other, but it was in ‘The End’, we actually saw what would happen to Sam and Dean if they didn’t have each other.

Dean turns into this cold, unfeeling ‘human’ who would sacrifice his friends (and yes, even Castiel) for a greater cause. This Dean kills and tortures without a second thought. And Castiel is there. Castiel is there with Dean, but Dean still turns into this man. It’s not Castiel who kept Dean from becoming this ruthless man. It has always been Sam.

And Sam? Without Dean by his side, he gives in and says ‘yes’ to Lucifer. He promised himself to never give in, but without Dean, he said yes. Without each other, they are lost. Their love for each other is what keeps them from giving up, losing faith and turning into killers and monsters.

It was Sam’s never ending faith and trust in him (trust and faith, Castiel didn’t have in Dean) that kept Dean from saying ‘yes’ to Michael in ‘Point of No Return’. Dean sold his soul for Sam and he would do it again it. It’s Sam who keeps Dean from turning into another Gordon Walker. And it’s Sam who gives Dean a purpose to fight. Sam has never been a burden for Dean, because Sam is his whole world. Dean would burn down the whole world to keep him save. Dean needs Sam – needs him more than anyone or anything else. Dean needs Sam more than he will ever need Castiel.

And it’s Dean who keeps Sam from giving into his anger and frustration. It’s Dean who made Sam realize that running away has never been the right thing to do. It’s Dean who keeps Sam human and reminds why he is fighting this never-ending battle. It was Dean’s love that helped Sam to overcome Lucifer and to save the whole world. Sam took willing all the memories from hell, just so we wouldn’t leave his brother alone. It was Dean who helped Sam to not give into his hallucinations.

In the end, it comes down to the fact that Sam and Dean can’t live without each other. There can never be another person who loves and impacts Dean more than Sam. It’s Sam who can hurt him the most and it’s Sam who loves him the most. It’s only for Sam who Dean would give his life, soul and if he had to, the whole world. Hell, they are soulmates and even when they, they will be together. Forever.

Sam and Dean are NOT perfect. They never were. They are fucked-up and broken and they make so many mistakes and hurt each other. But it’s their fucked-up love that saved the world from going down over and over again. They are not perfect human being but it’s only together, they can function. I’m sorry, but there’s absolutely no one who could love them and care for them and impact them, then they love, care for and impact each other.

This is canon. This is not something, I made up to make my ship seem ‘more canon’ (can there be something like more canon?) than another ship or to make a character seem flawless and faultless while blaming other characters for the mistakes someone else did. Supernatural has always been a story about Sam and Dean and their all-consuming love for each other.

The fact that some people would belittle the love and the impact Sam and Dean have on each other, just to make a fanon ship more plausible or stretch the importance of a character is really, really sad.

Btw, I’m not saying that Sam and Dean don’t love other people or that these people don’t leave an impact on them, because they do. It’s just that they love each other the most and they need each other the most and if they had to, they could live without those people, but they could never live without each other.

ALL. OF. THIS.

But also, this episode pretty much is all the proof I need that Edlund is the biggest Wincest shipper of them all. Because really, IN THE END, look at the overall message, look at the conclusions drawn/lessons learned by Dean. It couldn’t be clearer if it was actually spelled out.

So both Chris and Darren want Kurt and Blaine to be in a stable and long-lasting relationship
